August 10, 2021, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDT

This presentation will give social workers tips and tools for understanding and mitigating how race/racism effects the client-clinician relationship. You will receive the answer to questions including:

• What if my client accuses me of being racist towards them?
• What if my client says something racist/bigoted towards me?
• How should I manage when a client talks about racism/bigotry they have experienced in the world?
• What role can psychoeducation play in addressing the underlying reasons clients struggle in these ways?

These matters have always been important. And they feel even more pressing as our culture reckons with the past and present. This presentation will give participants pertinent information for clinical work in our evolving world.

Speaker

Ebony Mack hails from NYC where she received a BA in psychology from City University of New York. She obtained her MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018 and was honored to be the speaker at the ceremony for her graduating class in Social Work. She also became a member of the Phi Alpha honor society that year.

Ebony’s perspective is derived from being an adoptive parent, an adoptee, and a social worker. She has over fifteen years of professional experience that includes seven years helping families and children navigate the journey of adoption. She is a proud mom of her 22 year old son, who came to her family at age 17, and her daughter, who was just born in December 2018.
