DESCRIPTION
Social Media has significantly changed the way that our children interact with the world. They have immediate access to information, tools to express their creativity, emotions, opinions and sense of self. Along with offering an exciting way to connect with people and information around the world, social media also offers new risks.
• Revealing too much personal information
• Exposure to inappropriate material
• Cyberbullying
• Online predators
As a parent or guardian, you need to be up-to-date on the social media channels your children use. Help them use these tools safely by learning how to use them yourself. Children whose parents and guardians regularly talk to them about personal safety are more likely to exhibit responsible behavior on their own.
Gladney’s Post Adoption & Client Services Team will serve as a panel to share discussion starters to help you begin a dialogue about maintaining healthy boundaries between the adoptive and biological families online. The panel will also discuss fears of being identified, the importance of communicating expectations, and why the Registry is still relevant in today’s world.
