DESCRIPTION 

Nikolaus Johnson M.S., LPC and Kareecia Thompson, MS., LMFT-A from The Center for Counseling and Family Relationships will be presenting Multi-Cultural Diversity. Do you want your organization's team to understand the differences between multi-cultural awareness and multi-cultural competency? This training will cover topics of:

  • spirituality
  • economics
  • race
  • ethnicity
  • shared common experiences of the presenters and participants

The impact on the helping professions, practical strategies to implement with individuals and families, and factors relevant to families involved in domestic and international adoption will also be included.

 

About the Speakers

Nikolaus Johnson M.S., LPC

Nik Johnson joined the Center for Counseling and Family Relationships in 2017 and received his License as a Professional Counselor in 2018. He moved to Texas from Missouri where he provided in-home services to children and families exposed to trauma from abuse, drugs, and violence. In his Master’s work, Nik designed and carried out a study focused on cross-cultural application of counseling skills with a substance abuse population in Kenya. Nik provides play therapy for children and counseling for adolescents and adults. He enjoys working with families to help them recognize unhealthy patterns and relationships to form healthier relationships.

Kareecia Thompson, MS., LMFT-A

Kareecia Thompson joined the Center for Counseling and Family Relationships in 2017 and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate. Kareecia was born in Jamaica and moved to the United States unaccompanied at the age of 21. She comes with her own personal experience of having to adjust and be open to living life in a new context, while maintaining important aspects of her heritage. She moved to Texas from Kansas where she worked at a domestic violence shelter and owned a private practice. Prior to entering the counseling field, Kareecia worked within Human Resources Management for over 10 years in various industries. Kareecia provides counseling to adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She specializes in working with women, couples, and families during life transitions, clients experiencing difficulty in the workplace, and clients immigrating into a new culture.
