America's Hidden Slavery: Child Sex Trafficking

Lindsey Speed

This training explores child sex trafficking in our communities through a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach, utilizing a handful of real-life Traffick911 case studies. You will learn:

  1. How children are targeted
  2. The key vulnerabilities of at-risk youth
  3. Red flags to watch for reporting guidelines
  4. Trauma-informed approaches to working with victims

You'll also gain an understanding of pimp manipulation, recruitment and power/control dynamics, as well as insight into societal drivers of sex trafficking.

Turning Silence Into Safety: Telling It Like It Is

Amy Suffield

Play it Safe!® is a physical and sexual abuse prevention program that has been presented to over 1.5 million Pre-K through 12th grade students in Tarrant county over the last 30 years. With topics ranging from harassment to sexual assault, learn what makes this program effective and how it can help professionals improve response to survivors. This presentation will discuss how early education and intervention can help prevent abuse, sexual assault, and other forms of interpersonal violence in the future.

About the Speakers

Lindsey Speed

Lindsey's passion is helping hurting people. She has been involved in the fight against human trafficking with Traffick911 since 2010. She currently serves as Chief Programs Officer for Traffick911, overseeing all prevention, identification and empowerment programs, and operations for the agency. Lindsey speaks across Texas to first responders, everyday citizens and youth on the issue, and has the unique opportunity to work very closely with victims and their families as an advocate. Lindsey is on the executive committee of the North Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking and is a member of the Crime Victims Council of Dallas County and the Texas Victim Services Association. She represents Traffick911 on the Texas Attorney General's Human Trafficking Task Force and Governor's Multi-Disciplinary Response Team. Lindsey holds a Bachelors of Science from Texas A&M University and is certified to assist victims of crime through the Texas Victim Assistance Training Academy.

Amy Suffield

Amy is the Community Education Services Coordinator at The Women’s Center of Tarrant County. Amy graduated from McMurry University with a Bachelor of Arts and has been with The Women’s Center for 9 years. During that time she has spoken to thousands of Elementary, Middle, and High School students; as well as college students, parents, religious groups, service groups, police officers, and other professionals.
